The Northern Military District ( Hebrew פיקוד הצפון ) is the regional command center of the Israel Defense Forces responsible for the northern border of Israel with Lebanon and Syria . The command is located in the main headquarters in Safed , and is responsible for all units located between Hermon in the north and Netanya in the center of the country, with a significant presence in the Galilee and the Golan Heights .

Content
History
The Northern District was created at the end of the War of Independence - as part of the structure of the regional command of the army (based on the Haganah). Prior to the Six Day War, the district was mainly responsible for the border area with Syria. During the Six Day War, he was in command of the capture of the Golan Heights and the northern part of the West Bank . After the Yom Kippur War, during the war of attrition, he led actions against Syria until the conclusion of the Armistice Agreement in 1974 .

The district is headed by the District Commander ( Hebrew מפקד הפיקוד Mefaked Ha-Pikud ) with the rank of Major General, and his headquarters are managed by the head of the district headquarters ( Hebrew רמ"ט Ramat ) with the rank of Brigadier General. :

- District Military Police Chief ( Hebrew ממצ"פ matsap ) (subordinate to the Military Police Command);
- District Legal Advisor ( Hebrew יועמ"ש yoamash ) (subordinate to the Department of International Law of the Military Prosecutor's Office ).

- The 5001st territorial part of the rear support ( Heb. אגד לוגיסטי מרחבי , abbreviated אלמ"ר almar );
- 5002nd territorial part of rear support ;
- 5003rd territorial part of rear support ;
- 651 territorial part of military equipment ( Hebrew יחידת חימוש מרחבית , abbreviated יחש"ם yachsham );
- Military-engineering part of the district (the commander of the part is the head of the military-engineering department of the district);
- Artillery part of the district (the commander of the part is the head of the artillery department of the district);
- 541st medical district (the unit commander is the head of the district’s medical department);
- 388th base of telecommunication equipment;
- 371st battalion of communications of district subordination;
- The construction part of the district.
Combat
The Northern Military District consists of four divisions, in peacetime reporting directly to the Headquarters of the Command.
- 36th Gaash Armored Division ( Hebrew עוצבת געש );
- The 91st Ha-Galil Territorial Division ( Heb. עוצבת הגליל );
- 210th Ha-Bashan Territorial Division ( Heb. אוגדת הבשן );
- 319th reserve armored division Ha-Mapac ( Hebrew עוצבת המפץ ).
In wartime, a decision can be made to merge the divisions into one of two reserve corps , which are the transitional command link between the district and the divisions — the Northern Corps and the General Staff Corps [1] .
