MILO

MILO (Rus. "Milo") is an English-language magazine about power sports published in the USA by IronMind under the motto: "for serious power athletes." The original name is associated with the name of the ancient hero Milo (Milon) of Croton .

General Edition Information

MILO has been published quarterly since April 1993 . The permanent publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine is Dr. Randall J. Straussen . The publication covers topics such as weightlifting , strongman, arm wrestling , powerlifting , Highlanders games, the specifics of weight training, etc. The structure of the magazine contains five permanent sections: industries, people, training , competitions and history.

MILO is the only American publication in its sports niche to receive accreditation to cover weightlifting competitions at the Olympic Games in 1996 , 2000 , 2004 and 2008 . The magazine also covers other leading power tournaments: European and World Weightlifting Championships, World's Strongest Man, IHGF Heavy Events World Championships, Arnold Classic , GNC Grip Gauntlet.

MILO regular contributors included John McCallum, John Brookfield, Steve Justa, Ken Leistner, Jim Schmitz, Bill Starr and Pavel Tsatsulin.

MILO is respected in a professional environment. Brooks Kubik in the book “Dinosaur Training” recommended that readers subscribe to this magazine, which, he said, is “an excellent source of information about productive training with weights” [1] .

The magazine cover often publishes photographs of the most prominent power athletes. At different times, these were, for example: Paul Anderson, John Brzenk , Jeff Caps, Doug Hepburn, Bill Kazmaer, Ken Patera, Alexander Kurlovich , Magnus Samuelson, Leonid Taranenko , Magnus Ver Magnusson, Mariusz Pudzyanovsky , Zhydrunas Savickas ; of the Russians - weightlifters: Oleg Perepechenov (in September 2001) and Evgeny Chigishev (in September 2005), arm wrestler Denis Tsyplenkov (in September 2009).

Russian athletes are also given a significant place in the journal's historical section. In particular, biographical articles about Ivan Poddubny , Vasily Kostenetsky , Vladislav Kraevsky, Grigory Kashcheev, Ivan Zaikin, Nikandra Vakhturov, Ivan Shemyakin, etc., were published in MILO .
