The city is located on the Durzhon River at the confluence of the Colombin River. In the old part of the city, buildings of the XV - XVII centuries are preserved.
In Vesoul, physicist Alexis Theres Ptis [1] , artist Jean-Leon Gerome [2] , journalist Edouard Albert Portalis , actress Edvig Foyer and military Jean-Michel Nicole were born.
Since 1995, the city annually hosts the International Asian Cinema Festival .
