Prilepin, Zahar

It comes from the ancient family of the Prilepins - service people . According to the historical archival documents of the Russian State Archives of Arts, its ancestor , the boyar’s son, Ivan Fedotov, the son of Prilepin , is mentioned in the “Holy Cross Book of the City of Dobrov” (1681), the descendants of which at the beginning of the 18th century were transferred to the estate of odnodvorski — paramilitary landowners , who were a special category of peasant settlers who lived on the outskirts of the land and at the same time carried the border guard of the Moscow and then Russian states ^[7] .

Yevgeny Prilepin was born on July 7, 1975 in the village of Ilyinka, Ryazan Region , in a Russian family: father - Nikolai Semyonovich Prilepin, a school history teacher , mother - Tatyana Nikolaevna Nisiforova, nurse ^{[8] [9]} .

In 1986, the family moved to the Nizhny Novgorod region , in the city of Dzerzhinsk , where parents were given an apartment ^[10] .

After graduating from high school in 1992, Prilepin moved to Nizhny Novgorod ^[10] .

In 1994, he was called up for military service in the ranks of the Russian army , but due to circumstances he was commissioned ^[10] .

After serving in the army, he studied at the Police School at the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia ^[11] and served in the riot police . In parallel with the service, he studied at the philological faculty of the Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky (NNSU) , however, he had to interrupt his studies in 1996 in connection with the service and sending him along with the personnel of the unit to Chechnya to participate in hostilities .

In August - September 1999, he took part in repelling the invasion of militants and in armed clashes in Dagestan ^[10] ; In the same year, he graduated from UNN , becoming a certified philologist, and left the service at the special police forces ^[10] .

In 2000, he got a job as a journalist in the Nizhny Novgorod newspaper Delo. Published under many pseudonyms , the most famous of which is Eugene Lavlinsky . In 2001, he became editor-in-chief of the newspaper ^[10] .

The first works of Prilepin were published in 2003 in the Day of Literature. Then his works were published in Literaturnaya Gazeta , Limonka , On the Edge and the General Line, as well as in the magazines Sever , Friendship of Peoples , Roman Newspaper , New World , Snob ”,“ Russian Pioneer ”,“ Russian Life ”,“ Aurora ” ^[12] .

Prilepin was the editor-in-chief of the National Bolshevik newspaper of Nizhny Novgorod, People's Observer . He participated in a seminar for young writers “ Moscow - Peredelkino ” (February 2004) and in the IV, V, VI Forums of young writers of Russia in Moscow. Prilepin is considered one of the founders of modern Russian military prose (along with Alexander Karasev and Arkady Babchenko ) ^{[13] [14]} .

In October 2014, Prilepin became one of the hundred people of the year in Russia according to the Russian Reporter magazine ^[15] . In November, it took the eighth line in the list of the most promising politicians in Russia, according to studies by the Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Studies (ISEPS) close to the Kremlin ^[16] . In April 2015, Zakhar Prilepin climbed to fifth place on a similar list ^[17] .

In the same April, Prilepin’s novel “The Abode” took first place in the ranking of the best-selling books of the year according to the site “Pro-Books.ru”. According to the results of 2015, the novel "The Abode" became the most read book in the libraries of Moscow ^[18] .

December 4, 2018 was appointed deputy art director of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky ^[23] . From March 2007 to 2015, Zakhar Prilepin was the general director and editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta in Nizhny Novgorod ^[24] .

On July 1, 2012, together with Sergey Shargunov, he headed the editorial board of the Free Press website: Shargunov became the chief editor, and Prilepin became the chief editor ^[28] .

Over the years, he led columns in Russian media, including in the magazines Story and Ogonyok , in Novaya Gazeta, Izvestia and other print media.

In 2011, Prilepin as a rap artist recorded a joint track with musicians from the group 25/17 for the album of their side project Ice 9 - Cold War . The track was called "Kittens." In 2011, Prilepin assembled his own group, Elefank. On the label “Noon Music” the group released their debut album “The Seasons” ^[30] . In total, three albums of the group were released. The tracks “Time to Blame” and “In the 91st” got the greatest popularity. The song "It's Time to Blame" provoked a sharply negative reaction from the liberal critics of the writer ^{[31] [32]} .

By the opening of the “ Yeltsin Center, ” Prilepin and Rich recorded the song “In the 91st” and uploaded a clip to it on the Network. The video starred Andrei Merzlikin and Yuri Bykov . In 2012, Prilepin acted as an actor, playing in the series Inspector Cooper. In 2013, he appeared in a small role in the film adaptation of his novel The Eight. Having organized the next fundraising for humanitarian aid to Donbass in February 2015, by March Zakhar managed to raise more than 12 million rubles ^[45] . In July 2015, Ukrainian writers Yuriy Andrukhovich and Sergey Zhadan refused to participate in the discussion with Prilepin, which was supposed to take place at a literary festival in Germany . Zhadan noted that he considered it pointless to discuss with “one of the Russian writers, a supporter of“ Novorossiya, ”who, after traveling to the Donbass, writes texts about the heroic militia and stubbornly stigmatizes the Kiev junta ” ^{[38] [53]} .

For political reasons, Zakhar Prilepin is a national Bolshevik (since 1996), a supporter of the coalition and then a member of the unregistered Russian political party, Other Russia , founded by Eduard Limonov ^[8] . He took part in the organization of the Nizhny Novgorod “ March of Dissent ” on March 24, 2007. In the same year he became a co-founder of the national-democratic movement "People". An open political space is needed. First of all, the country must be brought out of a state of political freezing. In 2012, he took part in the protest movement and publicly demanded the resignation of Putin ^[62] .

In 2014, after the accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation , Prilepin rethought his attitude to modern Russian authorities. In an interview dated October 1, 2014, he declared a "personal armistice of power" and the absence of "the slightest motivation for confrontation." He motivated this position by the changes taking place in Russia, about which he wrote and dreamed since the mid-1990s ^[63] .

In the fall of 2017, he participated in the presidential intra-party elections of the Left Front , but lost to Pavel Grudinin ^[64] .

November 29, 2018 became part of the headquarters of the All-Russian Popular Front ^[65] . Because of this, he was expelled from the “Other Russia” by its founder Eduard Limonov, who had previously suggested that Prilepin independently make a choice in favor of one of the two political structures ^[66] .

Zakhar Prilepin took part in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine ^[67] .

Since December 2015, Prilepin was an adviser to the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko ^[68] .

From October 2016 to July 2018 ^{[67] he} was deputy commander of a special forces battalion for work with the personnel of the DPR army (the commander of the battalion was Sergey Fomchenkov, a member of the Other Russia ^[69] ), and from November 2016 he was promoted to major .

Participation in the armed conflict did not prevent Prilepin from holding meetings with readers in Moscow bookstores. The ultimate goal of the war was called the victory of Donbass through the return of Little Russia and the Russian city of Kiev ^{[67] [70] [71]} .

On March 16, 2017, Prilepin was awarded the cross of the Donbass Union of Volunteers ^[75] .

In November 2017, a former Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Freedom party, Yuriy Mikhalchishin , on ZIK TV channel, urged Ukrainian intelligence agencies to kill Prilepin. In particular, he said: “He is legendary by the Russian secret services as a writer. But this is a man who took part in more than one armed conflict. He is combat-ready and aggressive.
