Description
Length of front wing of males 46–55 mm, females 65–67 mm. The wingspan of males is up to 90 mm, females - up to 100 mm. The upper side of the wings is dark, brown, with a bright purple tint in males. Wings with large white and yellow spots of circular shape located in the central sections of the wings, and with smaller yellow spots on the periphery of the wings. Hind wings with red torn spot. The underside of the wings with the same pattern, but the hind wings and the top of the front wing are whitish or yellow, with faint light spots. Palps large, obliquely protruding forward. The front legs are reduced, not used when walking, devoid of claws and covered with thick hairs. Hind tibia with one pair of spurs. The central cells of the front and rear wings are not closed. On the fore wings, the veins R1, R2 do not branch and originate from the central cell. R3, R4, R5 have a common trunk, which also starts from the central cell. Veins R1 and R2 go to the costal (front) edge of the front wing, vein R3 to the apex, and veins R4 and R5 to the outer edge [1] .

Biology
Butterflies are found in deciduous forests. Flight time: June — August. The caterpillar is green with yellow stripes and small yellow dots, on the head there are 2 horns. Caterpillar feed plants: Carcass genus [1] - Celtis jessoensis , Celtis japonica

Sasakia charonda is considered the emblem of Japan . According to Japanese beliefs, the butterfly symbolizes a young woman, butterflies fluttering around each other symbolize family happiness. That is why all the solemn processions and holidays in this country begin with a ritual "butterfly dance" expressing the joy of life.
