Troitsky, Nikolai Alekseevich

He graduated from the History Department of SSU named after N. G. Chernyshevsky in 1954 .

Since 1961, he has been teaching at SSU, since 1972 he has been a professor, and from 1975 to 2001, he was the head of the Department of Russian History.

In 1963, at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic "The Great Propaganda Society 1871-1874 (the so-called" Tchaikovsky ")" ^[1] .

In 1971, at the SSU named after N. G. Chernyshevsky, he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic "Political Processes in Russia (1871-1891)" ^[2] .

Elected a full member of the International Academy of Higher Education Sciences (1993) and the Academy of Military Sciences of the Russian Federation (1996).

The largest specialist in the history of political processes (courts) in Russia, developed this scientific direction at the junction of a number of humanities: history, political science, law, literary criticism, and art history. He studied not only the political and legal aspects of litigation (principles and features of the behavior of the accused, institutions and norms of law, advocacy in political processes, etc.), but also their reflection in domestic and world culture - in fiction, painting, music, theater, cinema. The author of a major study on the representatives of the Russian legal profession - political advocates. He was critical of the idealization of the tsarist regime and its individual figures (for example, P. A. Stolypin ).

The author of works on the history of Russian culture of the XIX century is mainly a reflection in the literature and art of the peoples of Russia of national liberation and revolutionary ideas, on the one hand, as a special form of the cultural process, and on the other hand, as a kind of public opinion.

He studied the problems of the history of foreign policy of Russia in the 19th century related to its participation in coalition wars against Napoleon and, first of all, the Patriotic War of 1812. The author of books about Alexander I and Napoleon, Field Marshal M. I. Kutuzov . He opposed “patriotic” mythology, believed that M. B. Barclay de Tolly made a greater contribution to the victory in the war than Kutuzov, an opponent of the point of view that Kutuzov was a more outstanding commander than Napoleon (“Napoleon is a world’s magnitude, Kutuzov is national ”).

He studied the history of historical thought and science, mainly revising, on a documentary basis, the stereotypes rooted in Soviet historiography in highlighting the revolutionary process, domestic and foreign policy and culture of Russia of the 19th century

His works have been repeatedly reviewed abroad, and the book "Patriotic War of 1812. Theme History" was reprinted in the United States in 1993 . Numerous foreign scholars referred to his works - from F. Venturi to R. Pipes . He maintained creative relations with St. Petersburg Institute of RAS , with colleagues from several universities in Europe and America .

Under his editorship, an interuniversity scientific collection entitled The Liberation Movement in Russia was published at the department.
