Lipp ( Lipp ) - a brasserie located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district ( VI arrondissement of Paris ) on the Boulevard Saint-Germain , opposite the other famous institution - Cafe de Flor .
Leonard Lipp opened the brasserie on St. Germain Boulevard on October 27, 1880. As an Alsatian , he left his homeland, captured by Prussia . At different times, the brasserie was visited by Marcel Proust , Andre Gide , Antoine de Saint-Exupery , Pablo Picasso .
One of the cafe's regulars was Ernest Hemingway , who wrote here, visited it with friends and relatives. In June 1928, he advised his sister Marceline Hemingway-Sanford to go there: “Go to Brasserie Lipp on Saint Germain Boulevard (it's opposite Cafe des Deux Magots ), have a beer, order potato salad and shukrut . The best beer in Paris ” [1] .
In July 1920, Brasserie Director Marcellin Caz revived the work begun by some poets such as Paul Verlaine and Guillaume Apollinaire . In 1935, he founded the literary prize Kaza , awarded annually to authors not awarded other awards.
