Biography

Livingston graduated from Altrincham Grammar School for boys with only one top five in geography. Yang maintained close ties with the school, donated money to upgrade computer equipment, and also delivered a speech at the second diploma award in 1998.

Career

Games Workshop

Together with John Peake and Steve Jackson [2] , he founded Games Workshop in the early 1970s and distributed Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing games from TSR, Inc. [3] .

Under the leadership of Livingstone and Jackson, the company is transforming from a simple office engaged in mailing orders by mail into a large and successful game manufacturer, owner of a chain of stores. In June 1977, partly to advertise the first Game Workshop store, the game magazine White Dwarf was published, where Livingston acted as editor in the first 74 editions.

After opening several stores, Jan and Steve, together with Bryan Ansell, set up Citadel Miniatures in Newark for the production of action figures.

Fighting Fantasy

In 1981, Jackson and Livingston develop the concept of a mixture of role-playing and book, resulting in a series of Fighting Fantasy . The first book was co-authored by Jackson and Livingstone and sent to Penguin Publishing, from which came the wish "as many books as possible in the shortest possible time." Subsequent books were written by them separately for speed. The series has sold more than 14 million copies, and one of the books is Deathtrap Dungeon , with a circulation of more than 300,000 copies in the UK alone.

Video Game Industry

In the mid-1980s, Livingston designed games for Domark and in 1993 he returned to the company this time as the main investor and board member. In 1995, Domark was acquired by Eidos and became the main part of the newly created Eidos Interactive . In 2005, Eidos was acquired by SCi , and Livingston remained the only board member to retain its post, while receiving the role of director of purchased products. He was involved in Tomb Raider: Anniversary , an enhanced version of the original game, released in 2007 [4] .

Awards

  • Honorary Doctor of Technology Abertean University (2000).
  • In 2002, Livingston won the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards for outstanding contributions to the community.
  • Livingston was awarded the Order of the British Empire for the "Service of the computer gaming industry" in 2006.
