The administrative center is the working village of Rudnya .
Geography
In the north and northeast, the district borders on the Zhirnovsky district; in the west - with Elansky; in the southeast - with Kotovsky; in the south - with the Danilovsky district.
Geographical position
The area is located in the north of the Volgograd region in the zone of mixed grass-fescue-feather grass moderately arid steppes, on the Medveditsky Yars. Along the banks of three rivers - the Ursa Major , Tersa , Schelkan, small bayrech forests with giant trees grow in ravines. Rudnyansky district is famous for the most beautiful corners of nature; it is even called Volgograd Switzerland.

Minerals
In the district, oil, natural gas, construction sand, gravel are explored and produced; there are deposits of white refractory clay, phosphorites.

The climate is steppe.

Flora and Fauna
In the southeastern part of the district, there is a territory of special value for the conservation of objects of flora and fauna, listed in the Red Book of the Volgograd Region - SPNA Peony leafy .
History
The Rudnyansky district was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee on June 23, 1928 as part of the Kamyshin District of the Lower Volga Region . Since 1934, as part of the Stalingrad Territory , since 1936 - the Stalingrad ( Volgograd ) region. In 1963 - 1964 the district was abolished [6] .
On December 21, 2004, in accordance with the Law of Volgograd Region No. 969-OD [7], the district was granted the status of a municipal district. It consists of 10 municipalities: 1 urban and 9 rural settlements.

Agriculture
The main direction of the economy of the Rudnyansky district is agricultural production: the area of farmland is 107.6 thousand hectares. The agricultural industry of the region is supported by farms. Here they grow rye, wheat, buckwheat, barley, corn, oats, sunflower; cattle, pigs, sheep are grown.
Incidents
The steppe fires that occurred on September 2, 2010 , caused great damage to the village of Osichki and the village of Rudnya .
