Guanare ( Spanish: Guanare ) - a city in the northwest of Venezuela , is part of the state of Portugal , the municipality of Guanare. The population is 113,000 (2007).

The city was founded in 1589 by the governor Diego de Osorio as a village. Subsequently received the status of a city. There are nine universities in the city.
Attractions
Many consider Guanare the spiritual capital of Venezuela. Here is the temple of the Virgin Mary de Coromoto , honoring the patron saint of the country, and a monument erected in 1996 in her honor. In the center of the city stands a monument to the national hero - Simon Bolivar .
