That ( French Étang de Thau ) is a lake of lagoon origin in France off the coast of the Mediterranean Sea . Located in the region of Occitania , near the border with Spain . The third (after Lake Geneva and Lake Ber ) is the largest lake in France.

Description
A narrow spit separates the lake from the sea. The water in the lake is brackish, the level of salinity varies depending on the season. The maximum depth is 32 m. The water temperature ranges from + 7 ° C to + 24 ° C. The volume of water is 340 million m³. The average depth of the reservoir is 4.5 m. Shellfish are bred on the lake, mainly oysters and mussels . A popular tourist attraction.
On the shores of the lake are cities and towns: Balaruc-le-Bains , Marsayan , Meuse , Buzig , Seth .
Fauna
A variety of animals, birds ( herons , pink flamingos ) and many marine inhabitants ( jellyfish , fish , algae ) live in the lake basin.
