The Royal Order of Victoria and Albert was established on February 10, 1862 by the British Queen Victoria . After the Queen’s death in 1901, this order was no longer awarded. The order was assigned exclusively to women and had close family, friendship or official relations with Queen Victoria. These were mainly members of the European royal families and their kindred persons. Carriers of the order (called companions ) had the right to put the designation VA after their name and title, but did not use other privileges. The number of members of the order was not limited. The last bearer of the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert was Alice (1883-1981), Princess Albany, Countess of Athlons, the last granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
