Story
The protagonist of the story is Roland from Gilead , traveling in search of the Dark Tower. The events of the story precede the main part of the Dark Tower cycle, but occur after the events that took place in the Mejis feud and described in the fourth book of the cycle - The Sorcerer and the Crystal .
During the events described in the story, Roland rides on horseback, chasing Walter, a man in black .
Roland comes to a deserted village - Eluria, where he sees a feral dog with a spot on his chest in the form of a cross, tormenting a corpse. Having driven the dog away, Roland finds a rectangular gold medallion on the corpse. Having decided to bury the body, Roland was attacked by a group of green-skinned mutants who, despite the fact that Roland killed several of them, nevertheless beat him to a loss of consciousness.
Roland later woke up in a large hospital tent, surrounded by a strange group of those whom he mistook for nurses .
