Sakai [1] ( 堺 市 Sakai-si ) is a city in Japan located in Osaka Prefecture . Since 2006, is included in the list of cities defined by decrees of the government of Japan . The second largest city by area and population in Osaka Prefecture.

Content
Geography and Economics
The city of Sakai is located in the south-west of the island of Honshu , on the coast of the Gulf of Osaka . Included in the Osaka prefecture of the Kinki region. Administratively divided into 7 urban districts. It borders on the cities of Osaka , Matsubara , Khabikino , Tondabayashi , Osakasayama , Kavatinagano , Izumi and Takaishi .
The area of the city is 149.99 km² [2] , the population is 840,037 people (August 1, 2014) [3] , the population density is 5600.62 people / km².
Since the 15th century, Sakai has been known as an important seaport in trade with China and Korea . Currently, the city has developed electronic, electrical, metallurgical and chemical industries.
Attractions
In Sakai is Daisenryo - kofun , one of the largest tombs in the world, with an area of 320 thousand m², belonging to the Japanese emperor of the 4th century Nintok .

Japanese Prime Minister Suzuki Kantaro was born in Sakai.
