Arilloid (from the Latin. Arillus "roof", "mantle" and other Greek ε δος "type"), or false aryllus , or false roof - the growth of the fabric of the outer integument ; later, from the integument of the ovule , a seed coat develops, therefore, arylloid can also be defined as an outgrowth of the seed coat . The difference between arylloids and aryluses (“true aryluses”) is that the latter are the growth of tissues not of the integument, but of seedloids .
Arylloids usually contain nutrients that attract potential seed distributors - primarily ants , as well as birds .
Arylloids are characteristic of plant seeds from the Clusia ( Clusia ), Asp, ( Asarum ), Myristica ( Myristica ) genera (including nutmeg ), Scilla , and many others.
Varieties of arylloids
According to the place of growth, the following types of arylloids are distinguished [1] :
- caruncula (from the Latin. caruncula "fleshy growth") - arylloid, resulting from the growth in the sperm ;
- Strofiol - arylloid, arising as a result of growth in the field of seed suture .
