Classic Series

Although many argue that the film " Texas Chainsaw Massacre " [3] was based on real events, it would be more accurate to say that the image of the maniac Leather face was created on the basis of an existing person - Ed Guin [4] . The film tells about a girl named Sally Hardesty and her friends, who set off on a van trip to a cemetery in Texas , to the grave of her grandfather, to see if she was whole after the vandal tricks of local hooligans. Together with brother Franklin and the others, Sally decides to visit an abandoned farm, where their grandfather once lived, not suspecting that the possessions of a family of cannibals working at the local slaughterhouse are not far away. And the most terrible of this little family - a maniac nicknamed Leather Face opens the hunt for Sally and her friends ...

In the sequel, entitled “ Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 ” [5], the main character is a young radio show host, during the broadcast of which a bloody murder was committed: two young people traveling in Texas decide to joke and call this show, but this time, the leather face attacks them, brutally killing young people. In the air, only the chainsaw buzzing is heard ... Some time later, the local sheriff, Lieutenant Enright, turns to the girl for help in catching the sinister killer.

In the film “ Leather Face: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 ” [6], a young couple, Michelle and Ryan, drives the car through Texas , and on the advice of the charming cowboy Tex, they decide to save time on a new road that has not even been mapped. How could they have known that Tex was from a family of cannibals, and this road would lead them directly to the very lair of psychopathic criminals who are wanted by all of Texas! In the role of Tex - the famous actor Viggo Mortensen .

The fourth part, entitled " Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation " [7] is not much different from previous ones. Renee Zellweger as the main character and Matthew McConachy as the psychopath-cannibal. Critics agree that this part is deservedly forgotten. At the graduation party, the heroine's girlfriend Zellweger finds her boyfriend on the other and leaves the school in tears. The young man rushes her. So they drive a long distance by car, not noticing that their friends were hiding in the back seat. According to all the laws of the genre, the car stalls away from civilization.

The latest film released today is “ Texas Chainsaw 3D Massacre ” [8] , which is a direct continuation of Hooper's first film, ignoring the events of remakes. The film tells about a young girl named Heather, who traveled with friends to Texas to receive an inheritance from her recently deceased grandmother, whom she had never heard of. As a result, Heather finds out that she is a relative of the Sawyer family, who were killed by local residents shortly after the events of the 1974 film. She also meets her cousin, a surviving maniac nicknamed Leather Face.

Remake

The painting “ Texas Chainsaw Massacre ” [9] of 2003 is the official remake of the 1974 film . The action takes place on August 20, 1973 , five young people travel through Texas from Mexico . On the way, they almost knock down a young girl. The guys put her in her car, wanting to help, but it is too late - the girl commits suicide right in the back of the van in front of the amazed travelers. Friends try to find a local sheriff, but he is not in a hurry to help those in trouble. The heroes do not know that the sheriff and his family - the only inhabitants of the district - are real maniac cannibals.

A few years later - in 2006 - the sequel to the remake, which is its prequel, is released a film called “ Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning ” [10] . The events unfolded in 1969 : two brothers and their girlfriends travel through Texas to soon go to war in Vietnam . However, their patriotic aspirations do not come true - on the way, the guys are confronted by Sheriff Hoyt and his cannibal family, whose victims are looking for the maniac Leather face , who will mercilessly kill one after another.

Seventh Movie

The painting by William Hooper, son of Toub Hooper , entitled “American Massacre” ( eng. All American Massacre ) was never released and was a prequel to the 1974 film [11] . The project began as a 15-minute short film shot in high resolution format has grown to a 60-minute film [11] . The official site published a movie trailer [12] , the music for which was written by the musician Buckethead . According to the plot of the film, Chop Top is kept in a prison for the mentally ill, and many family members appear in memories during an interview with a journalist from a tabloid television program [12] .

After the picture “ The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning ” did not meet the financial expectations of the producers of Platinum Dunes , the idea to remove the third picture in the remake universe was abandoned, although the bosses initially voiced this possibility [13] .

When the rights passed to Lionsgate , the management announced its intention to make the eighth film of the franchise, confirming the intention to create up to six more films of the series [14] . Soon, Deadline.com reported that Millennium Films is developing a project called Texas Chainsaw 4 ( English Texas Chainsaw 4 ), which was supposed to start shooting in Louisiana later that year [15] . Whatever it was, Millennium Films later reported that the creation of a continuation is possible, but at the moment there are no specific projects [16] .

Comics

Northstar

In 1991, based on the movie " Leather Face: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 ", Northstar publishes a 4-part series called Leatherface ( English Leatherface ) [35] . The plot of Mort Castle ( born Mort Castle ) is based on the script of the third picture, although there are some differences, in particular, more bloody scenes, which were abandoned during the shooting or editing: “One can hardly say that this series is an adaptation of the third film. I worked with David Shaw's original script, which was subsequently greatly changed - what the film looks like is very different from what it was supposed to be, but the producers still allowed the authors to go in the right direction for the plot. Thanks to this, we sold out all 30 thousand copies of the first issue. ”

Kirk Jarven ( born Kirk Jarvinen ) drew the first issue, and Guy Barwell ( born Guy Burwell ) worked on the remaining parts. The ending of the story is different from the one in the film, and the fate of some of the characters is also changed.

After the release of this series, the publisher planned to release several mini-series and adapt the original film - a preview of the covers of the first two issues was even published in the 4th issue of Leatherface. JJ Birch ( Eng. JJ Birch ), Tim Vigil ( Eng. Tim Vigil ) and Val Mayerik ( Eng. Val Mayerik ) invented the plot of the series “The Archives of the Texas Massacre” ( The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Portfolio ), and “Leather Face : Special Edition ( born Leatherface: Special ) was written by Mike Baron ( English Mike Baron ) and telling about the childhood maniac, but all these projects had to be canceled.

Topps

In 1995, Topps publishes a mini-series of 3 issues called Jason vs. Leatherface ( eng. Jason vs. Leatherface ), in which Crystal Lake, by decision of the authorities, becomes a place for office building [36] . Maniac Jason Vurkhiz, along with waste, is accidentally locked in a container, from where he safely escapes, meeting Sawyer, a family of cannibal maniacs, the most famous of which is the killer Leathery face .

Avatar Press

In 2005–2006, Avatar Press began publishing a series of comic books that continued the 2003 remake mythology, but were the background to those events. According to the tradition of publishing houses, for the comic books several variants of covers were developed for each of the numbers of the series. A total of 5 issues were published.

The first in April 2005 was “Special Edition” ( special ) [37] , which took place a year before the remake event. In the center of the plot are several criminals who escaped from prison and their girlfriend, who met with Hewitt on the desert roads of Fuller.

In May-June 2006, the release of the mini-series "Meat Grinder" ( eng. The Grind ) from three issues [38] . This time, the victims of the maniacs are girls from the church choir, whose bus broke down near the Hewitt farm.

In the latest issue of Avatar, entitled Fear Book , published in June 2006 [39] , the plot approaches the classic concept of the series, where the main characters are a group of young people.

Wildstorm

After Avatar loses the rights to release comics from the New Line Cinema studio, WildStorm begins work on a 2003 series remake. A total of 13 issues were published in 2006–2007 [40] .

The events of the first series, called the Texas Chainsaw Massacre ( Eng. Texa Chainsaw Massacre ), take place a year after the film: a leather face was cut off, Erin was placed in a psychiatric clinic, and the FBI began a serious investigation into the events in Texas. Among the agents - the uncle of the heroine of the film (a girl named Pepper), who begins to dig under Hewitt. The focus is on two groups of heroes - FBI agents led by agent Hooper and a TV journalist named Kim Burns, who took seriously the investigation into the events in Fuller, Texas .

Later, the publishing house began to release individual stories and mini-series:

  • Shot! / Cut (1 issue)
  • The Story of a Boy / About a Boy (1 issue)
  • Hoyt himself / Hoyt by Himself (1 issue)
  • Raising Cain / Raising Cain (3 issues)

In September, a special edition of the New Line Cinema Horror ( eng. New Line Cinema's Tales of Horror ) comes out, consisting of two stories about legendary maniacs: Freddy Krueger and Leather Face. The script was written by Christos Gage ( Eng. Christos Gage ) and Peter Milligan ( Eng. Peter Milligan ); the artist became Stefano Rafaeli ( born Stefano Raffaele ) and Tom Fister ( born Tom Feister ); The cover was designed by Darick Robertson . In the first story, Kruger tries to find out who the maniac from Springwood is, taking away the master of the dreams of his victims. The second part called “Texas Chainsaw Seller” tells about the seller Tobe Harris, he appears on the threshold of the trailer Lyuda May and is trying to sell the latest model to the woman.

Video games

In 1983, VSS, Inc. released the game The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the Atari 2600 platform developed by Wizard Video Games based on the classic Hooper tape [41] . The game received a wide resonance [42] , because at that time it was believed that computer games for children, and this release clearly did not suit the young audience - the player controls the maniac named Leather face, destroying everything and everyone that comes his way [43 ] . The leather face uses its signature weapon - a chainsaw. The main goal is the pursuit of random victims and their killing. The player must avoid encounters with obstacles in the form of cow skulls, a wheelchair, fences and fences. Some fences can be destroyed with a chainsaw. A player gets 1,000 points for each stranger killed, and for every 5,000 points a gallon of fuel for a chainsaw. When a player runs out of fuel, victims may attack Leathery face.

This has led many retail chains to refuse to sell the game [44] [45] [46] .

In 2006, HeroCraft released the eponymous mobile game based on the remake and prequel. The player is also asked to manage the leather face, exterminating the locals who fell under his hand [47] .
