Express fitting

Express fitting - a hunting rifled gun of the 19th century , which makes up the transitional stage from the nozzle to the rifle , which got its name in relation to railway terminology, due to the extremely high initial speed reported by the pool . This speed is so great (at least 1,600 ft. Per second) that, even firing at long distances at a fast-moving target (for example, at a running animal), there is no need to mark ahead of it; the trajectory described by the bullet is so arched that the bullet flies almost in a straight line at a distance of up to 200 steps. These results, of course, very favorable for the success of hunting, are achieved mainly by a significant increase in the charge of gunpowder, and the ratio of the weight of this charge to the weight of the bullet (usually with a void inside, covered with a capsule or filled with wax) is often equal to 1: 3, and sometimes even more (e.g. for cal. 500 - 7.64 gr. black powder and 19.20 gr. bullets). Under this condition, a huge destructive power of a bullet ( slaughter ) is obtained, which from a blow to the beast turns around its bottom and even shatters, causing terrible wounds.

Express fittings are single-barrel and, more often, double-barreled ; the type distinguishes between ordinary and " magnum " - E., allowing a particularly strong charge of gunpowder and a lightweight bullet; the astonishingly strong battle of these latter E. is reliable only at short distances. E. only small calibers are made (see): 360 (for hunting goats, wolves ), 400, 450 (for moose, bears), 500 (the same) and 577 (for elephants, rhinos, lions, tigers). For a fortress, as well as to avoid strong returns (see), E. are made very heavy: double-barrel E. 577 cal. weighs at least 11 pounds., and 360 cal. - not less than 7.75 pounds. Rifling is used quite flat. Sleeves - brass, in the form of a cone or a bottleneck.
