Located in California in Yosemite National Park , of glacial origin. The mirror of the lake is located at an altitude of 2484 meters above sea level. The lake is located between the Yoshimichi Valley and Tuolumn Meadows.
The Tenaya Creek flows through the lake. The lake is named after the Indian leader Tenai.
