Medon developed around the Bourbon residence, which Louis XIV built for his son, the " great Dauphin ." After the death of the heir to the throne, the Medon Palace fell into decay and was finally destroyed during the years of the Franco-Prussian War . Its ruins are handed over to the branch of the Paris Observatory . A similar fate befell the Bellevue Palace in Médon, built for the Marquise de Pompadour by the royal architect Gabriel .
Medon claims the right to be called the birthplace of French aeronautics. In 1880, engineer Charles Renard built a hangar in Medon, next to which tests of the first aircraft were carried out. It was in Medon that the La France airship took off.
In the XIX century, Medon became a true Mecca for artistic youth. Maupassant , Renoir and Manet lived here, and the villa of Rodin with his grave is declared a national museum. The last years of the life of the writers Rabelais and Selin are connected with Medon. Richard Wagner composed The Flying Dutchman here, and Marina Tsvetaeva wrote a posthumous message to Rilka ( New Year 's).
In February 1897, a duel took place in Medon between the poet, novelist and critic Jean Lorrain and writer Marcel Proust . The reason for the duel was Lorraine's devastating review of Proust’s book, Joys and Days . The second from Proust was his friend, impressionist painter Jean Bero . Sartre spent several childhood here.
After the revolution in Russia, a small old town located between Paris and Versailles was immediately chosen by refugees from Russia - it was only 20 minutes by train to the capital, and the apartments here were cheaper. In the late 1920s, the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection and Resurrection was built here, painted by Yu. N. Reutlinger.
Of the modern inhabitants, the most famous are Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis , for about 40 years Boris Spassky lived in Medon.
