Sun acquired StorageTek in 2005 and opened the code for many of its products. Together with server technology and Solaris , Sun expects to build an affordable storage platform. Sun plans to take at least 12 percent of this market by 2011. Solutions from other suppliers are closed systems in which all components must be purchased from the same manufacturer.
