Biography

In 1855 he graduated from high school in Warsaw. From 1855 to 1861 he studied natural sciences at Moscow University .

From October 1862 to June 1863 he taught science at the gymnasium in Warsaw.

He took an active part in the January uprising . During the uprising, he was an assistant secretary to the interim government, Jozef Kajetan Janowski , as well as the plenipotentiary commissar of the rebel government and authorized in the province of Augustow , under the pseudonym Ignacy Czyński ( Polish: Ignacy Czyński ).

After the suppression of the uprising, Radzishevsky emigrated to Belgium , where from 1864 to 1867 he studied chemistry at the University of Ghent . In 1867, he became a doctor. Then for three years he was an assistant at the University of Leuven (Belgium).

In 1870, he moved to Krakow , where he taught as a professor of chemistry at the Technical Institute and at the same time taught in high school.

In June 1872, Bronislav Radzishevsky was appointed professor of general chemistry and pharmaceuticals at the University of Lviv . He became the first professor in Lviv to study chemistry in Polish . He became the head of the department and the director of the Institute of Chemistry.

In 1874 he became an ordinary professor. In 1879 - 80 years he was also the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy . In 1882 - 83 years, Bronislav Radzishevsky was rector of the University of Lviv.

Radzishevsky was the author of more than 200 scientific papers in the field of organic chemistry , he specialized in the study of aromatic compounds . He named the chemical reaction : " Radzishevsky reaction ."

Radzishevsky was studying the phenomenon of luminescence . He managed to prove that some solutions of complex organic compounds begin to glow when they are enriched with oxygen . As soon as the supply of oxygen ceased, the glow ceased. He was able to calculate that a mixture of 0.003 g of organic compound and 0.0006 g of oxygen glows for 500 hours. Radzishevsky suggested that the glow of some jellyfish , fish and trash has exactly the same mechanism. Namely: this glow is the result of the slow oxidation of some organic compounds by atmospheric oxygen.

Radzishevsky was active in public life. From 1874 to 1903 he was a member of the city council of the city of Lviv. As rector of the university, he was a member of the Galician Sejm .

In 1874, Bronislaw Radziszewski together with Felix Kreutz ( Polish. Feliks Kreutz ) founded the Polish Scientific Society of Naturalists named after Copernicus. Radzishevsky was a member of the board of this society, and in 1877 - 78 and in 1890 - 91 - the president of the society.

Since 1876, Radzishevsky began to publish the magazine "Cosmos" (Kosmos). Until 1913, he published 135 articles in this journal.

Since 1874, Radzishevsky is a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences, and since 1881 - a full member of the Academy of Sciences. He was also a member of the Prague Academy of Sciences, a member of the Galicia Pharmacists Society, a member of the Czech Chemists Society.

Bronislav Radzishevsky is buried in Lviv at the Lychakiv cemetery .
