Biography
Born on November 19, 1958 in the city of Longeville-les-Metz (Longeville-les-Metz) in the department of Pas de Calais (France). He spent his childhood in the city of Toulouse (France).
In 1976 he graduated from the Saint-Cyr-l'Ecole military school with a bachelor's degree. In 1981, Jean-Francois Clairvoy received a diploma from the Polytechnic School in Paris. He later joined the SUPAERO School of Engineering and was finally admitted to the Toulouse Higher National School of Aeronautics and Space (ENSAE), graduating in 1983.
Work
From 1983 to 1987 he taught as an assistant signal processing courses and general mechanics at the Higher School of Aeronautics and Space in Toulouse. From 1987 to 1992 he was the head of the parabolic flight program for the Caravelle (Zero-G) aircraft at the Flight Test Center in Bretigny-sur-Orge (Bretigny-sur-Orge). Since 1992, he worked at CNES as a systems engineer.
Spaceflight
In 1985, he was selected to be part of the CNES astronaut squad and then completed a training course in Star City before being admitted to the ESA astronaut squad on May 15, 1992 .
From November 3 to 14, 1994, Jean-Francois Clervoy, as a flight specialist, first flew into space aboard the Atlantis shuttle under the STS-66 program. The flight duration was 10 days 22 hours 34 minutes.
The second flight, in which he took part, lasted from May 15 to May 24, 1997. Clervoy, as a flight specialist on board the Atlantis shuttle under the STS-84 program, visited the Mir orbital station. The flight duration was 9 days 5 hours 20 minutes.
His last, third start as a flight program specialist took place at the STS-103 Discovery , which was carrying out a mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope . The flight duration was 7 days 23 hours 11 minutes 34 seconds.
Jean-Francois Clervoy participated in the ATV development program. He is also the president of Novespace .
