Joseph Augustine Di Noia ( born Joseph Augustine Di Noia ; born July 10, 1943 , New York , USA ) is an American prelate and theologian , Dominican , Vatican and Kuril dignitary , a prominent member of the Roman Curia . Deputy Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from April 4, 2002 to June 16, 2009. Titular Archbishop of Oregon from June 16, 2009. Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Services and Discipline of the Sacraments from June 16, 2009 to June 26, 2012. Vice Chairman of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei from June 26, 2012 to 21 September 2013. Associate Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith since September 21, 2013.

Early life
Joseph Augustine Di Noah was born July 10, 1943 in New York , USA . A member of the Dominican eastern province of St. Joseph, Father Di Noia attended Providence College in 1961 - 1963 . Di Noia was ordained a priest on June 4, 1970 , and taught theology at the College of Providence from 1971 to 1974 . Di Noia earned his doctorate at Yale in 1980 with a thesis on " Catholic Theology of Religions and Inter-Religious Dialogue ." He later taught theology for 20 years at the Dominican College of Education and was editor of the journal Tomist . He was the founding director of the Intercultural Forum of the Cultural Center of John Paul II in Washington. Di Noia has four degrees of theology or certificate, including three from St. Stephen's College in Dover , Massachusetts .
Prior to his work at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center, Di Noah served for seven years as head of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Methods of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (now the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the United States ).
In 1998, Di Noia received from the Dominican Order the title of Master of Holy Theology. From 1997 to 2002, he was a member of the International Theological Commission .
In the Roman Curia
On April 4, 2002, Di Noia was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . And on June 16, 2009 he became Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Services and the Discipline of the Sacraments and was named archbishop [1] .
On July 11, 2009, the day after his 66th birthday, Di Noah received a bishop's ordination from Cardinal William Joseph Levada , Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , Archbishop of Washington Donald Wurl and former Archbishop of Louisville Thomas Kelly, Dominican Nepanites in Zachili Mary in Washington. Cardinal Antonio CaΓ±izares Llovera , Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Services and the Discipline of the Sacraments , was expected to help with the ordination of his new secretary, but he experienced "visa difficulties" and was unable to board the aircraft in Rome . Archbishop Kelly was the spiritual mentor of Archbishop Di Noi as a seminarian at the Dominican College of Education in Washington.
The titular diocese to which he was appointed is the city of Oregon. As a resident diocese, it was one of the two oldest metropolitan dioceses (along with New York ) in the United States after Baltimore , the first diocese (and later the first archdiocese ) in the United States. It became the metropolitan archdiocese in 1850 , but the diocese was moved to Portland in 1928 . The city of Oregon became the titular archdiocese in 1996 , but Archbishop Di Noia is the first prelate to whom she was appointed.
Archbishop Di Noia is also an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. In May 2011, Archbishop Di Noia was appointed consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
On June 26, 2012, Archbishop Di Noia was appointed Vice President of the Pontifical Commission of Ecclesia Dei , resigning as Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Services and Discipline of the Sacraments .
September 21, 2013 appointed associate secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith [2] .
