The main shrine of the Isonoki is the precious sword Futsu-no-mitama , the kami of this sanctuary. According to some Shinto theologians, in this case we are talking about the Mitam (spirit) of all Japan living in the Isonoki. According to legend, this is the legendary sword of Totsuka-no-Tsurugi , with which Susanoo killed the dragon Yamata-no-Oroti , and helped the legendary Emperor Jimmu to subjugate Japan. The sword was found in the imperial palace under Emperor Sujin and in 93 BC. er transferred to them by the Isonoki temple.

In the inner part of the sanctuary is stored a large collection of cold arms. One of the special relics of this collection is Nanatsusaya-no-tati , a sword with 7 blades, made in 369 . According to legend, 1000 swords donated by Emperor Suinin are also kept here . Prior to the Meiji restoration, priesthood at Isonoki was inherited.

Since the Yamato period, the patrons of the temple have been the Mononobe genus.

According to Shinto beliefs, kami purity in the Isonoki has healing power, and church priests are the creators of special psychosomatic exercises, including breathing techniques, prayers, certain body movements, etc.

The Isonokami-jingu complex is one of the National Treasures of Japan .
