Bailiff (mining)

Bailiff ( mining, mining, factory or mechanical ) - the direct manager in the mining business. Bailiffs led factories and mines and reported directly to the manager of the mining office.

In the order of Catherine II on measures to develop the state-owned mining industry of January 30, 1781, the leadership of the mountain districts indicated the need for monitoring the activities of factories and mines, the creation of the institute of mountain bailiffs , which were under the control of the state chambers. Then, in 1781, a reorganization of the local mining department followed: instead of the chancellery, in the districts, a Mountain Expedition was established under the state chambers.

Prior to the formation of the Corps of Mining Engineers (KGI), the bailiff was a non-commissioned officer without a special mining technical education with the rank of 13th grade master , and with the introduction of the KGI institute, the bailiff in the officer rank was the second lieutenant (lieutenant) .

In the subordination of the mountain and factory bailiffs were mountain lower ranks.
