At the end of the XVI century it was divided into 5 branches of the genus: Klimentevich (Belgorod), Prokofievich (Ryazan), Vasilievich (Moscow), Maksimovich (Vladimir and Kostroma), Simonovich (Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow, after the extinction of the Vasilievich branch).

Origin of surname

Versions:

  1. The surname Balakirev could go back to the nickname Balakir, which was used to call a well-fed strong man or a potter profession holder. This nickname gained this meaning from the word "balakir", that is, "clay pot."
  2. They could call a balakir a talker, an amateur talker. It is known that in some dialects the words "balaka" with the meaning "talker, talker, joker" and "balls" - "tales, jokes" are preserved today.
  3. "Bala Kire" - translated from Tatar - a stubborn child.

The first two versions are supported by the fact that some representatives of the genus were called the Bolakirevs, which depended on the region where they lived.
