Biography
In 1873 he graduated from Saint-Cyr Military School . He served in Madagascar , since 1903 the commander of the infantry division, since 1913 a member of the Supreme Military Council. With the outbreak of World War I , he was appointed commander of the 3rd Army. Under his command, the 3rd Army suffered a heavy defeat in the Ardennes operation from German troops . After this, on August 30, 1914, Ruffe was dismissed.
