Biography
He started his professional career at the River Plate Club in Montevideo. As a player of this club, he made his debut in 1996 in the Uruguay national team. It was a friendly match against China .
In 1998 he performed in Europe, including the Italian “Torino”, after which he returned to “River Plate”. In 2000–2004, he replaced 5 clubs from 4 countries (among them were the legendary Colo-Colo and Asuncion's Olympia, in which he won the Libertadores Cup 2002, in the year of the club’s centennial).
In 2006, Hernan Lopez won the Paraguay Championship in the club “Libertad”, becoming at the same time the best scorer of the tournament with 27 goals. In 2008, Lopez won the Interliga international tournament with the Mexican “America”, in which the best clubs of Mexico and MLS take part.
In 2008–2010, Lopez advocated the Argentine Veles Sarsfield. For the first season in 33 matches, he scored 13 goals and helped his clubs win the Argentina Championship 2009 (Clausura). Successes Lopez were marked by Uruguay head coach Oscar Washington Tabares , and 13 years later the player again received an invitation to the national team for a friendly match against Algeria and 2 qualifying games for the 2010 World Championships against Peru and Colombia [2] .
In 2010, he moved to Estudiantes. As of 2017, Hernan Lopez is the best of the current Libertadores Cup scorers with 22 goals scored.
