History

Keynan was one of the first townships founded in 1798. From it, in 1852, the Township of South Keynan was isolated [1] .

Township is known for appearing here in 1905 with the blessing of Saint Tikhon , the future Patriarch of Moscow, Tikhonov Monastery , the first Orthodox monastery in America. In this monastery, Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen) , the current Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, took monasticism. In 1938, the St. Tikhon Theological Seminary opened at the monastery. In the monastery church of St. Tikhon Zadonsky the relics of the holy righteous Alexy Tovt , one of the most significant Orthodox American missionaries, rest.

Population

According to the 2010 census, the population of South Keynan was 1,768 people (of which 51.7% were men and 48.3% were women), 645 were households and 487 were families. Racial composition : white - 96.9%, African Americans - 0.5%, Native Americans - 0.2%, Asians - 1.1% and representatives of two or more races - 1.3%. In 2014, the population of the South Keynan township was distributed by origin as follows: 7.7% - American, 33.5% - German, 21.9% - Irish, 18.9% - Italian, 16.6% - Polish, 10.9% are English, 4.1% are of Dutch origin [2] .

The population of the city by age range according to the 2010 census was as follows: 24.2% - residents under 18 years of age, 3.7% - between 18 and 21 years old, 55.6% - from 21 to 65 years old and 17.0% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 42.3 years. For every 100 females in York, 107.0 males were accounted for, while for 100 adult females there were already 104.7 males of comparable age [2] .

Of the 645 households, 75.5% were families: 61.4% of couples living together (23.9% with children under 18 years of age); 9.6% are women living without husbands and 4.5% are men living without wives. 24.5% did not have a family. On average, 2.68 people conduct households, and the average family size is 3.06 people [2] .
