The album demonstrates Dylan's departure from his former image, characterized by innovation in music, philosophical texts, a combination of folk music and rock and roll . Nashville Skyline played in an emphasized simple style, which appeared in the previous album of Dylan John Wesley Harding , and shows a complete immersion in country music . Dylan uses more traditional themes for songs and a simpler structure of songs, his style of singing becomes closer to the singers of country music.
The album received various critics, but despite its sounding time (27 and a quarter minutes is Dylan’s shortest album), it had commercial success: number 3 in the US, and number one in the UK.
