Nature
On this territory there are unique geological and natural landscapes: chalk outcrops that are along the Oskol River. In order to preserve them, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of December 11, 2009, the Dvurechansky National Nature Park was created. Among the variety of natural complexes of the national park, the chalky steppes, bayrack and floodplain oak forests, black forests and floodplain meadows can be distinguished. Such landscapes represent a harmonious system in which one can see the richness of flora and fauna.
The greatest scientific and environmental value of the national park is a strip of Cretaceous outcrops and their rare vegetation. The Cretaceous Mountains are part of a large Cretaceous massif, which was formed at the bottom of the ancient sea in the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic. This is the so-called "chalky shoulder" of the Voronezh granite shield. On the chalk slopes, relict (those that have remained from certain geological eras) and endemic (those that are found in a small number of places) plants have been preserved. In addition, virgin steppe plots are represented on the territory of the national park, these are natural territories, the number of which is limited and reduced. Therefore, the Park has become a habitat for a significant number of rare representatives of the animal and plant world. The list of protected species of different levels includes 81 species of plants and 30 species of animals of the Park. 27 representatives of the flora and 16 fauna are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. The animal and plant worlds are diverse.
