The abduction of Jayce Lee Duguard

Philip Craig Garrido was born on April 5, 1951 . He grew up in the California city ​​of Brentwood (California . In 1969, Philip graduated from a local school. On June 10, 1991, 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Duguard was abducted when, while at a stop located near her house, she was waiting for the arrival of a school bus. One of Garrido’s neighbors recalls that as a child, he saw Duguard through the backyard fence shortly after her abduction. Jaycee Lee Duguard gave birth to two girls from Philip: the first in August 1994 , the second in November 1997 . Jaycee was 14 at the time of the birth of her first child. According to law enforcement agencies, at the time of their involvement in the case (in 2009 ), Dughard lived in the backyard of the Garrido family. In this place there are several non-residential utility rooms, two tents and what has been described as a “shower and toilet of a camping type” ^[8] . One of the non-residential premises is soundproof, used by Philip as a private recording studio to record his religious songs and country -style compositions. The territory of the backyard is surrounded by an almost two-meter (1 m 80 cm) fence and tall trees. The passage leading to the backyard is covered with a tarp. Tents and utility rooms blocked the courtyard from prying eyes. An old car was found there, similar to the one through which the abduction was committed ^[9] .

Law enforcement officials visited Garrido's house at least twice in recent years, but the backyard was subjected to a surface inspection.

During the investigation, children's items, including books and toys, were found in the backyard among non-residential premises and tents. Electricity was supplied using extension cords.

The investigation found that Jaycee Duguard was seen in Garrido's house; She repeatedly opened the door to visitors. Her daughters were seen playing in the backyard and in a car owned by Garrido.

Philip Garrido said he was educating girls at home.

Aunt Jaycee Lee and a former Garrido business partner named Cheyvonne Molino claim they have not seen any signs of child rights being violated . In their opinion, the girls did not show a lack of education. Molino claims that on several occasions, over the years, she saw girls, and they were normally dressed, showed no signs of tension, and that their behavior was the same both in the presence of the "father" and in his absence.

Police failed to establish a connection between the abduction of Jaycee Lee Duguard committed in South Lake Tahoe and the abduction of Katherine Collaway, which committed Garrido there, in 1976 .

On April 22, 1992, less than a year after the abduction of Jaycee Lee, an anonymous call was received from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department. In 2006, one of Garrido’s neighbors called 911 and said that there were tents in the backyard of the house where the children lived. In the essay, Garrido claimed that he had found a method for solving problems similar to that which he himself had encountered in the criminal past. The essay contained a description of how he got rid of his sexually penal tendencies. Garrido argued that this information could help re-educate individuals prone to sexual offenses by “controlling the human impulses that force people to perform dysfunctional acts” ^[12] .

On the same day ( August 24, 2009 ), Philip Garrido visited the police department at the University of California at Berkeley , where he tried to obtain permission to conduct (as part of his own program called God's Desire) a “special Christian event” on campus. On this issue, he spoke with Lisa Campbell ( Lisa Campbell ) - an employee of the said institution. Campbell drew attention to the strange, according to her, behavior of this visitor, and, recognizing the name of Garrido, made an appointment for him the next day.

On the morning of August 25, 2009, Campbell informed Garrido of the upcoming meeting and suspicious behavior of a university police officer named Ally Jacobs . The latter, checking the database, found out that Garrido is a parole prisoner guilty of rape. Jacobs decided to attend the meeting too.

Garrido came to a meeting with two girls whom he introduced as his daughters. During the meeting, Jacobs drew attention to the fact that the girls' behavior was abnormal. In this regard, she called an employee of the body of the control of prematurely released from prison, which was supervised by Philippe Garrido. The control officer was absent, and Jacobs left him a message in voicemail.

On the same day, after listening to the message, two employees of the control body of the early released arrived at the house of the Garrido family. Upon arrival, they handcuffed Philip Garrido and inspected the house. In the house was the wife of Garrido Nancy and his elderly mother. After that, the officers of the control body took Philip Garrido to their office.

On August 26, 2009, Philip Garrido arrived at the control office with his wife Nancy, two girls, and Jayce Lee Duguard, who introduced herself as Alyssa .
