Gerardo Reichel Dolmatoff ( Spanish: Gerardo Reichel Dolmatoff ; March 6, 1912, Salzburg - May 16, 1994, Bogotá ) - Colombian anthropologist and archaeologist of Austrian origin.

Biography
He emigrated to Colombia at the end of 1930 and soon became a member of a group where, along with ethnographic studies of Indian peoples, other European ethnologists who fled from Nazism — Paul Rive , Justus Schottelius and others — engaged in ethnographic research. During the war, together with Rive Reichel-Dolmatoff created a free French cell in Colombia. His wife since 1943, Alicia Dussan, was also an anthropologist.
He gained fame both as a field researcher and as a university professor. In 1945, he founded the Maria Magdalen Ethnological Institute in Santa Marta , and in 1964, the first faculty of anthropology in Colombia. In 1964, on his initiative, an anthropology program was launched for students at Andean University in Colombia.
Founder and first director of the Department of Anthropology, Andean University. He has also been a guest lecturer and researcher at the University of Cambridge and the University of California.
Foreign member of the US National Academy of Sciences (1976) [4] . One of the founders of the World Academy of Sciences [5] .
The author of hundreds of articles for scientific journals.
In 1992, he signed the “ Warning to Humanity ” [6] .
