Hugo Wallace Weaving ( born Hugo Wallace Weaving , MFA ['hjuːgəʊ' wɒləs' wiːvɪŋ] , born April 4, 1960 in Ibadan , Nigeria ) is a British-Australian film actor. The most famous roles are Agent Smith in the film Matrix trilogy, Elrond’s role in the film trilogies of Peter Jackson The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey based on the works of John Ronald Roel Tolkien , the role of V in the film V means vendetta , the role of Red Skulls in the movie " First Avenger ", and he also voiced Megatron in the first three films about Transformers .

Biography

Hugo Weaving was born on April 4, 1960 in Nigeria , in the university clinic of Ibadan , in the family of the English - Wallace Weaving, a seismologist, and Anna Lennard, a former teacher and tourist guide. His maternal grandmother was Belgian. He spent his childhood in South Africa and after, as a teenager, he moved to England . There, he attended the Queen Elizabeth Hospital private school, better known as the QEH School in Bristol . In 1976 he moved to Australia .

Career

Weaving received his first serious role in the television series Bodyline in 1984.

Weaving starred in the Australian film The Dirtwater Dynasty in 1988 and later, in 1989, in the movie Bangkok Hilton . In 1991, he received an award from the Australian Film Institute as the best actor for his play in low-budget films. He also played Sir John in 1993 in the Yahoo Serious comedy, an episode of Reckless Kelly , a libel to famous Australian criminal Ned Kelly. However, Weaving first gained fame overseas for his role in the movie " The Adventures of Priscilla, the Queen of the Desert " (1994). In 1998, he won the Best Actor Award at the Montreal Film Festival for his play at The Interview . Weaving also played Poseidon in the Odyssey miniseries adaptation. He voiced the animated film The Magic Pudding .

His role as the mysterious agent Smith in the 1999 blockbuster The Matrix brought him worldwide fame and made his face recognizable around the world. Weaving repeated his role as Smith in the 2003 sequels to The Matrix of The Matrix: The Matrix: Reboot and The Matrix: The Revolution . He consolidated his success by filming as Elf Elrond in the film adaptation of John Tolkien 's The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson .

He starred in the films “Everything Goes” (2004) and “V means Vendetta” (2005), in the last film he played V. This role was originally intended for James Purefoy, but he after four weeks of shooting refused the role.

Personal life

Since 1984, Hugo Weaving has been in a relationship with Katrina Greenwood, they have a son Harry (born in 1989) and daughter Holly (born in 1993). Harry is also an actor, but performs under the name Harry Greenwood. The family lives in Sydney (Australia). The international press loves to claim that Weaving and Greenwood are married, but in fact, Weaving has let know about his negative attitude towards marriage.

Weaving is sick with epilepsy , which appeared in him at about 13 years old. Although, according to the actor, bouts of illness were rare, and after 18 years they completely stopped, this ailment was an obstacle to obtaining a Hugo driver's license [3] .

Has a brother Simon and a sister, Anna Jane.

The actor has nieces, Morgan and Samara Weaving , who are also actresses.
