Anna Laetitia Barbo ( French: Anna Laetitia Barbauld ; June 20, 1743 - March 9, 1825 ) - a famous English poetess , essayist and children's writer, sister of the writer John Aikin .

Biography
Anna-Letizia Aikin was born in the village of Kibworth, south - east of the city of Leicester, in the family of Rev. John Aikin, a priest of the Presbyterian church. Since childhood, she studied Latin , Greek , French , Italian , as well as other subjects rare for women of that time [1] .
In 1758, the family moved to Warrington , where her father taught at the local academy. There, Anna-Leticia met with the revolutionary Marat in the 1770s, who, according to some reports, was going to accept British citizenship to marry her [2] .
Her first book was published in 1773, it was a collection of poems , published under the title "Poems" .
In 1774, she married a descendant of the French Huguenots, Rochemon Barbo, under whose name she went down in history. After the wedding, the couple moved to Suffolk , where they rewrote some psalms and published them together with their essay “Thoughts on the Devotional Taste, on Sects and on Establishments” .
In 1778-1779, the children's book Lessons for Children was written, in 1781, Hymns in Prose for Children . In the 19th century, “ hymns ” were translated into several European languages [3] .
