Arik Artavazdovich Melikyan ( October 5, 1944 , Yerevan - April 6, 2009 ) - Soviet and Russian scientist, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, foreign member of NAS RA.

Biography
He graduated from FALT MIPT in 1969. After defending his Ph.D. in 1972, he joined the IPMekh . Since 1974, simultaneously with work at the institute, he taught at the basic department of the Faculty of Physics and Technology MIPT “Mechanics and Control Processes”. In 1986 he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 1998 he was awarded the State Prize in the field of science and technology. Elected Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2003.
The author of more than 140 works. The main areas of research: the theory of differential games, optimal control, control of dynamical systems, the method of characteristics, the theory of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation.
