RD-500 - aviation turbojet engine , a copy of the English Rolls-Royce Derwent V ( English ). The work was carried out at the plant number 500 together with OKB-117 , under the direction of V. M. Yakovlev.

Production
Serial production was carried out at the plants (now - MMP named after V. Chernyshev ) and Kazan Motor Plant No. 16 (now - KMPO ) since 1948 and at Zaporizhia Motor Plant No. 29 (now - Motor Sich OJSC ) 1956. About 1300 engines were manufactured.
Operation
RD-500 was installed on production aircraft La-15 , Yak-23 and prototypes - Su-13 , Yak-1000 , Yak-25 , Yak-30 (1948) , Tu-12 , La-174TK , La-174 , La -180 , KSK , cruise missile KS-1 "Comet". On the Yak-25 with the RD-500, a record ground speed was reached - 875 km / h, and on the La-174 - 1040 km / h at an altitude of 3000 m.

The RD-500 was a single-shaft TRD with a single-stage centrifugal two-way compressor, a single-stage turbine and nine individual combustion chambers. Specifications
