Development History
The first mention of lichens is found in Theophrastus [1] .
The beginning of lichenology is considered to be 1803 [1] , when the Swedish scientist Eric Aharius (1757-1819), a student of Karl Linnaeus , published his work Methodus qua omnes detectos lichenes ad genera redigere tentavit (lat.) (“Methods by which everyone will be able to determine lichens ”). He singled them out into an independent group and created a system based on the structure of fruiting bodies, which included 906 species described at that time.
