Prince Maximilian Vid-Neuwied ( German: Alexander Philipp Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied ; 1782-1867) - a famous traveler and naturalist from the princely family of Vidov , an honorary member of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences .

Vid-Neuwid served in the Prussian military service. In the years 1815-1817. he, along with the naturalists Freyreus and Sellov, traveled to the inner provinces of Brazil ; the result of this journey was Reise nach Brasilien in den Jah. 1815-1817 ”(2 vols., Frankfurt, 1819-20, with atlas in folio); “Abbildungen zur Naturgeschichte Brasiliens” (15 notebooks, Weimar, 1823–31) and “Beiträge zur Naturgeschichte Brasiliens” (4 volumes, Weimar, 1824–33). In the years 1832-1834 he traveled to the states of North America to Upper Missouri. About this journey, he published Reise nach Nordamerika (2 vols., 1838–43, with atlas). Weed-Neuwid also wrote a number of works for Leopoldinisch-Karolinische Akademie, whose active member remained to death. The collections collected by him are in Neuwied .
