Titanism is a trend in literature and philosophy, inspired by the revolutionary struggle with the established order, usually with an anti-religious bias. In Russian, the word is also used for:
- designations of the form of individualism, manifested in an orientation toward independence in solving one's own problems;
- descriptions of monumental ("titanic") achievements.
The name comes from ancient Greek mythology , from the revolt of the Titans against his father Uranus .
Prometheism
Titanism, characterized by fixation on the future and readiness for self-sacrifice, is called Prometheism , named after the titan of the "second generation" Prometheus . Literary critics connect the birth of modern Prometheism with the names of Byron and Goethe .
