History
The tournament was held in the city of Ramat Hasharon on the hard courts of the Israeli tennis center. In 1979–89 , the tournament was part of the ATP Grand Prix tournament bracket , in 1990–96 , it belonged to the category of international ATP tournaments , and in 1998–99 it was included in the ATP Challenger tournament grid. In 1995, the Tel Aviv Open Championship was named the Asia-Pacific Tournament of the Year .
The open championship of Tel Aviv was held in the first half of October, when Israel is still usually warm and dry. Since 2008, in the middle of the year, the Israeli Open Tennis Championship , ATP Challenger category tournament, has been held on the courts of Ramat Hasharon.
Tournament winners include the former first racket of the world Jimmy Connors (for whom in 1989 he was the last single-player tournament he won in his career), Ilie Nastase and former first racket of the world in pairs Tom Ocker (Nastase and Ocker won the pair competition at the first Open Tel Aviv Championship in 1979, and this year, Okker became the winner in singles). Amos Mansdorf was the only Israeli to win the Tel Aviv Open Championship, while Gilad Blum and Shahar Perkiss became the only Israeli couple to win the title; Steve Krulewitz , who performed under the Israeli flag in 1978-1980 , also became the doubles champion. The champion of the tournament in the number of victories in singles was the American Brad Gilbert - 3 victories. He also managed to once win this tournament in tandem with Nastas, who thus became the only two-time winner of the Tel Aviv Open Championship in pairs.
