Maria Dobrolyubova was born in the family of M. A. Dobrolyubov, a relative of the famous Russian critic N. A. Dobrolyubov . M. A. Dobrolyubov served in Warsaw; after his death in 1892, the family moved to St. Petersburg .

In 1900 she graduated from the pedagogical classes of the Smolny Women's Institute . According to K. M. Azadovsky , it was precisely pedagogical activity that was its true vocation.

In 1903, she organized a school for poor children in St. Petersburg.

In 1901 - 1902 she attended the Religious and Philosophical Assembly in St. Petersburg, was fond of the works of the Symbolists, tried to write herself.

In 1904, she voluntarily went as a sister of mercy to the Russian-Japanese front.

In the spring of 1905 she returned to Petersburg and took up revolutionary activities, joining the socialist revolutionaries .

In 1906, she was engaged in the construction of canteens “on hunger” in the Tula province , in the same province she worked as a teacher and distributed proclamations and revolutionary literature.

September 2, 1906 was searched and arrested. Staged in Tula prison, released after two months.

Then, having received the consent of the leaders, she launched a terrorist attack, but did not find the strength to shoot. Staying in a mental crisis, December 11, 1906 in St. Petersburg shot herself in the mouth.
