Biography

Alexey Popogrebsky, son of screenwriter Peter Alekseevich Popogrebsky, was born on August 7, 1972 in Moscow . In 1995, he graduated from the psychology department of Moscow State University , after which he was engaged in translation activities .

In tandem with Boris Khlebnikov, he made two short films (one documentary and one game), as well as the full-length feature film Koktebel , which won the 2003 Silver George special jury prize at the 25th Moscow Film Festival . After that, Popogrebsky and Khlebnikov began to work separately. In 2007, the film “ Simple Things ” won the top prize at the 18th Kinotavr Open Russian Film Festival . In 2010, Popogrebsky’s film “ How I Held This Summer ” entered the main contest of the jubilee sixtieth Berlin Film Festival [2] and received awards in the nominations “Best Male Role” (actors Sergey Puskepalis and Grigori Dobrygin) and “For outstanding achievements in the field of cinema ”(Operator Pavel Kostomarov) [3] . The film won at festivals in Chicago [4] and London [5] and was awarded the Golden Eagle Award [6] .

In 2010, he passed the course “Stereoscopic Cinema Studies” of the European Film Academy [7] and in 2011 shot the 3D short film “Bloodrop” in the framework of the almanac “ Experiment_5IVE ”.

In 2017, he staged the historical and dramatic series Optimists , which won the Golden Eagle Award for the Best Television Series (more than 10 episodes) [8] .

Since 2014, he has been the curator of the “Directing” program of the Moscow School of Cinema [9] .

On June 24, 2017 he was elected Chairman of the Film Union [10] . Regarding his election, he said: “I would be happy now to sit down and sort out all the tasks and the possibilities of solving them, say that the KinoSoyuz can and will do such and such specific things. But, alas, I can not " [11] .

He was a member of the jury of the London Film Festival in 2017 [12] , the chairman of the jury of the film festivals Movement [13] and Kinotavr [14]

Social position

In March 2014, KinoSoyuza signed a letter “We are with you!” In support of cultural figures of Ukraine [15] .

In June 2018, at the Kinotavr Film Festival , he called for the release of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov, a prisoner in Russia. [sixteen]
