Quetes

Quets ( czech Květy , actually “Flowers” ) is a Czech literary and educational journal founded in late 1878 by Svatopluk Czekh , his brother Vladimir and another Svatopluk university servatz Geller. A similar title of the journal was taken in memory of the eponymous editions of Josef Kaetan Tyl (30s), Vitezslav Galek and Jan Neruda (60s). The magazine was edited by Cech until 1899 .

The magazine was heavily financially dependent on its subscribers, most of whom were petty bourgeois, because of which the magazine had to experience censorship limitations [1] . The journal was one of the best periodicals of its time, which had a positive influence on the development of all Czech literature [1] . Many leading writers and poets of their time were published in the journal, among them were Neruda, Yrasek, Arbes, Sladek, etc. For the first time in the magazine were published the “Psogladets” of Yrasek , as well as a number of Neruda’s poems, which later appeared in the collection “Passion songs Fridays. " Not least was the merit of the magazine in familiarizing the Czech people with the classics of Russian literature. So in the journal were published translations of works by Pushkin , Lermontov , Belinsky , Ostrovsky , Turgenev , Saltykov-Shchedrin , Tolstoy , Chekhov and many others. In addition, the work of Slovak writers and poets, in particular, K. Zapa , M. Miksichek , E. Arnold , Western classics, as well as works of writers of other Slavic peoples, did not go away .
