Football is the most popular sport in Norway. They started playing football in Norway since the 1880s. The Norwegian Football Association was created in 1902 , and in 1908 the Norwegian national team held its first game. The country has 1,832 registered football clubs and about 25,000 teams. The number of officially registered players is 393,801. This means that 8.5% of the total population plays football.

- On April 30, 1902, the Norwegian Football Association was established ,
- On June 2, 1902, the Grané team won the Norghemester, the first tournament organized in Norway.
- July 12, 1908 in Gothenburg ( Sweden ), the Norwegian national team plays its first official game. Sweden won with a score of 11-3. This was also the first official meeting of the Swedish team.
- On August 15, 1936 in Berlin , the Norwegian national team won the Olympic bronze football medals.
- July 7, 1978 in Kolding ( Vejle , Denmark ), the Norwegian women's football team wins the first Scandinavian Super Cup, beating the Swedish national team with a score of 2: 1.
- On June 18, 1995, in Soln ( Sweden ), Norway won the 1995 World Cup among women's teams .
- September 28, 2000 in Sydney ( Australia ), Norway won the Olympic gold football among women's teams.
