Turbulence is a part of the plant ’s axial organ ( knot ), usually a stem or branch , on which three or more organs, usually leaves , sometimes flowers or branches, are arranged annularly at the same height (level). Each subsequent whorl can be rotated 90 degrees from the previous one, or half the angle between the leaves, or maintain the orientation of the previous node. The whorl is an important morphological characteristic.
If the plant has a whorl formed by leaves, the leaf arrangement is called whorled .
Opposite leaves , which are located at the end of the stem and look like whorled, are called false whorled .
