Johann Elert Bode ( German: Johann Elert Bode , January 19, 1747 - November 23, 1826 ) - German astronomer, in 1772 he got the position of an astronomer at the Berlin Academy of Sciences , then became a member of it and until his death published the " Berlin Astronomical Yearbook ", which became a desktop a book for astronomers.

In his book Uranographia sive astrorum descriptio (2nd ed., 1819), 17,240 stars are listed, 1,200 more than was known before. His Représentation des astres (1782) was widely used, containing on 34 small sheets all the stars visible with the naked eye over the Berlin horizon, together with the most important telescopic stars, a catalog and a mythological explanation of individual constellations.
From his other writings, it is worth mentioning:
- Entwurf der astronomischen Wissenschaft (2nd ed. 1825);
- "Allgemeine Betrachtungen über das Weltgebäude" (3rd ed. 1834),
- and the generally accessible textbook of astronomy, Anleitung zur Kenntniss des gestirnten Himmels (11th ed. 1858).
In 1789, he was elected a member of the Royal Society of London .
In honor of Johann Elert Bode named:
- Galaxy M81 , discovered by Bode himself in 1774,
- the asteroid (998) Bodey , discovered in 1923,
- crater on the moon .
