The Uars (also Vary , in Chinese : 滑 ; pinyin : Huá ) were the largest of the three ethnic components that make up the confederation, known in Europe as the Ephthalites and in China as the Yanda ( 嚈 噠 ) and the dominant ethnic group of Khorezm .
According to Firdousi , the legendary ancestor of Ouar was Afrasiab .
According to the writings of Simocatta , the Uars (along with the Chionites ) were the ancestors of the European Avars .
