Ivan Vitalievich Nifontov (born June 5, 1987 , Kazakh SSR , USSR ) is a Russian judoka , champion of the world and Europe, medalist of the Olympic and European Games.

Biography
Ivan was born in Kazakhstan, there he began to practice judo. When Ivan was 9 years old, his parents moved to Barnaul , where Nifontov continued his judo classes and attended gymnasium No. 40 . He is currently training with Igor Votyakov and Dmitry Sergeyev, bronze medalist of the 1992 Olympics . A significant contribution to the success of Ivan was also made by the head coach of the Russian team Olympic champion 1980, Italian Ezio Gamba .
In 2009, he won the European Championship in Tbilisi. At the 2009 World Cup in Rotterdam, he became the only Russian to win a gold medal.
He stands for Ryazan and Barnaul . Since 2005, serves in the internal affairs bodies [1] .
In 2010, Ryazan was recognized as the winner of the municipal campaign "People of the Year - People of the City 2009". Currently lives, trains and works in Ryazan.
At the 2012 Olympics in London, he won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 81 kg , beating Japanese Takahiro Nakai . Lost for reaching the final, Korean Kim Jae Bom , who later became the champion in this weight category [2] .
May 26, 2013 became the winner of the prestigious World Masters tournament, which was held in Tyumen.
At the 2014 World Cup in Chelyabinsk, he became a bronze medalist in the category up to 81 kg. In the 4th round, he lost to the Frenchman Loic Pietri , but then defeated the Brazilian Victor Penalber and another Frenchman Alain Schmitt .

- Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland Order, II degree (August 13, 2012) - for his great contribution to the development of physical culture and sports, high sports achievements at the Games of the XXX Olympic Games 2012 in London (United Kingdom) [3] .
