Club career
Sebastian Eguren began his career at the Montevideo Wanderers club, where he played from 1999 to 2002 , then played for Danubio from 2002 to 2003, and Nacional from 2003 to 2004 . On February 12, 2004, after a match with the Ecuadorian club “ El Nacional ” at the Libertadores Cup , which ended in a 0-0 draw, the Egurena doping test gave a positive result for cocaine , for which the player was suspended from football for six months. The football player himself blamed the result for coca tea [1] , which was prescribed as a medicine to facilitate being at altitude ( Quito is located at 2800 meters above sea level).
In July 2005, Eguren moved to the Norwegian Rosenborg for 125 thousand euros , together with compatriot Alejandro Lago , but in February 2006 he was sent to the reserve by the new club coach Per-Matias Högmo , and then was leased to Montevideo Wanderers "until July 1 of that year. After the season ended, Eguren went on loan to the Hammarby Club, which after six months, December 5 , bought the player’s transfer, signing a contract with the Uruguayan for three years, and gave Fredrik Stor in return to Rosenborg.
On January 30, 2008, Eguren was rented by the Spanish Villarreal until the end of the season [2] , in May 2008 Villarreal decided to buy the Uruguayan transfer for 1.3 million euros, signing a 3-year contract with it [3] . On January 27, 2010, Villarreal leased Eguren to the Italian club Lazio [4] , but the deal fell through due to unsatisfactory medical examination results for the football player [5] .
February 19, 2010 signed a contract valid until June 30, 2010 with the Stockholm AIK [6] . Hammarby fans perceived the transition of their former idol to the camp of their worst enemies as betrayal. On March 10, 2010, 16 [7] Hammarby fans broke into AIK training and threatened Eguren [8] [9] . In the first match of Eguren for AIK, the Swedish Super Cup was won [10] . In the match of the second round of the 2010 championship against Brommapoykarn , Eguren was removed from the field [11] and was disqualified for 2 games [12] . For three months, Eguren played eight official matches for AIK [13] .
July 8, 2010 he moved to the Spanish club Sporting ( Gijon ), a contract with which was designed for three years [14] .
In 2012, Sebastian returned to South America. With Libertad, the Uruguayan won the 2012 Paraguayan Championship (Klausura). In 2013, Eguren became a Palmeiras player, and in the same year he helped the Greens win the Brazilian Serie B and return to the elite division. After a six-month stay in the Argentinean “Colon”, in mid-2015, Eguren returned to his homeland, returning to the “Nacional” [15] . With the “tricolor” Sebastian did not manage to become the champion of Uruguay, but the team performed very successfully in the 2016 Libertadores Cup , losing only in the penalty shoot-out to the Argentinean “ Boke Juniors ” in the quarterfinals.
After the end of the 2015/16 season, Sebastian Eguren announced the completion of his football career. Immediately after that, he joined the coaching staff of Nacional, becoming an assistant to Martin Lasarte [16] .
International Career
In the Uruguayan national team, Eguren made his debut on July 13, 2001 in the America's Cup match against Colombia , replacing Rodrigo Lemos . After that, Eguren held two more meetings for the national team, but for several years he did not volunteer.
May 25, 2008, five years after the last call, Eguren played in a friendly game with the Turkish team. Eguren’s challenge was one of the first steps as the new head coach of the national team, Oscar Tabares , who made Eguren the national team player. He participated in the 2010 World Cup , where Uruguay took fourth place, but played only three minutes [17] . He is also the owner of the 2011 America's Cup.
In recent years, Eguren has not been a player in the core of Celeste. However, his substitutions, as a rule, strengthened the game. Moreover, Sebastian periodically scored goals against opponents just after coming on as a substitute. Despite his position as a defensive midfielder, he has seven goals scored for the national team.
